Pape Matar Sarr started his career in his native Senegal club Generation Foot. On 15 September 2020, he signed a five-year contract with Ligue 1 side Metz. Sarr made his debut on the 29 November 2020 in a Ligue 1 game against Brest. On 31 January 2021, he scored his first goal in Ligue 1 in the reverse fixture, a 4–2 away victory over Brest. On 27 August 2021, Sarr signed for Tottenham Hotspur. He was loaned back to Metz until the end of the 2021–22 season.
